Calculation the Excess Lifetime Cancer Risk for Soil Samples near The Middle Euphrates Center /Najaf /Iraq

Abstract
In current study, from Sixty samples were collected from the soil near and around the
central Euphrates Tumor Center, and only 30 samples were actually studied. The
Sodium iodide detector NaI (Tl) was used to calculate the concentration of 226 Ra, 232 Th
and 40 K% in ppm unit. The average concentration for the three radionuclides has been
found to be 0.824, 1.536 and 0.597% respectively. Radiological hazard of
representative level index (RLI), activity utilization index (AUI), concentration index
I C , Alpha index (I α ), annual effective dose (AEDE), excess life-time cancer risk
(ELCR) and Annual Gonadal Dose Equivalent (AGDE) have been estimated. From
results, the radiological hazards have been lower than permeation level recommended
by UNSCEAR. On the other side, the ELCR was being 1.2819*10 -3 , it was below
internationally recommended limits by UNSCEAR. The results were also analyzed
statistically as it was a very strong positive correlation between 226 Ra, 232 Th and 40 K%
with the AGED and the ELCR, was increasing statistical significance. In this study,
the area is considered safe and does not pose a health risk.
