A master’s thesis in the Department of Laboratory Investigation  investigates the relationship of some immunological criteria to early detection of infection with the Coronavirus

A master’s thesis in the Department of Laboratory Investigation investigated the relationship between levels of D-dimer, interleukin-6 and interleukin-10 and their impact on disease severity and mortality rate among COVID-19 patients in Najaf Governorate.

The thesis submitted by, Muhammad Dakhil Breeze, under the supervision of Dr. Muslim Idan Mohsen, included selecting 160 blood samples from patients admitted to Al-Amal Specialized Hospital and studying the blood parameters and the concentrations of interleukin-6 and interleukin-10 to find out which of them is considered an early diagnosis criterion for infection with the virus.

The results of the study showed a correlation between the levels of D-dimer, interleukin 6 and interleukin 10, and the rise of the other two criteria in acute infections compared to normal and moderate infections, which indicates the presence of a cytokine storm that affected them and caused deaths.
