Master’s thesis in the Department of Biology on the effect of marjoram on the bacteria associated with urinary tract infection

A master’s thesis in the Department of Biology investigated a
phenotypic and genetic study of antibiotic-resistant bacteria
associated with urinary tract infection in diabetic patients and
evaluation of the effect of antibacterial activity of a nano-extract of
marjoram.
The thesis, which was presented by Rabab Ibrahim Rahim under the
supervision of Assistant Professor Nibras Yahya Abdullah, included a
study of pathogenic factors of the main bacteria that cause urinary
tract infection, the determination of the resistance of bacteria to
antibiotics, the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by marjoram extract,
and the determination of its antagonistic activity, antioxidant effect
and blood analytical activity.

The results of the thesis showed that E. coli bacteria are the main
cause of urinary tract infection and produce many pathogenic factors
and have a wide range of resistance to many antibiotics. The results
also showed that the synthetic nanoparticles possess anti-bacterial
activity.
