The Department of Environment and Pollution held a seminar entitled Thalassemia, Causes and Solutions. The seminar included a lecture given by lecturer Hassan Abbas, which dealt with an overview of Thalassemia, which is transmitted from parents to children through genes, and its symptoms range from simple to severe and may lead to death as a result of the accumulation of iron in the organs of the body.
The seminar dealt with approved treatments to reduce the severity of thalassemia symptoms, such as folic acid, vitamin D, calcium, Exjade and Desferal, and an emphasis on conducting a thalassemia examination before marriage and not marrying relatives who have recessive traits to reduce the spread of the disease.
