A master’s thesis in the Department of Chemistry investigated the use of the organic compound trifluoperazine HCl as a colorimetric reagent for the quantitative determination of some drugs and applications on some preparations for the treatment of various infections.
The thesis presented by Haider Saleh Mahdi, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhaimin Muhammad Majeed, aims to find a spectroscopic method that is characterized by simplicity, ease, accuracy, and speed to estimate some of the locally common sulfa drugs, and to apply it to these drugs in all their forms.
The results of the thesis showed that the new method has all the required specifications for the determination of sulfa drugs in their pure state and in their pharmaceutical preparations available in the local markets.
The thesis recommended the possibility of using the proposed method in the estimation of some other sulfa drugs and different types of drugs, with the possibility of using this method in quality control processes on pharmaceutical preparations available in the local market.
