PhD thesis investigating genetic mutations in the TMPRSS2 gene in lung cancer patients

A PhD thesis in the Department of Biology investigated the molecular analysis of small ribose-RNA of the TMPRSS2 gene in lung cancer patients using bioinformatics.

The thesis submitted by PhD student Zaid Abdel-Hadi Abdel, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Jaber Mahawish, aims to analyze mutations and genotypes found in small ribosomal acid using bioinformatics analysis and to find the relationship with disease states, types and degrees in comparison with some physiological criteria.

The results of the thesis revealed a number of mutations in the TMPRSS2 gene, which amounted to 64% in women and 36% in men, and that smokers are the most percentage of recorded mutations, and the results showed – for the first time – the existence of a clear variation in the secondary form of RNA by comparing advanced cases with primitive cases, as well as compared with healthy or control groups.
