The Women’s Empowerment Unit in the Faculty of Science held a symposium entitled (Women between Modernity and Legislation), which included a lecture by Dr. Fatima Allawi Abd al-Sajjad, in which she dealt with the role of women in building a developed civilized society based on the history of the great women in Mesopotamia civilization such as the queens of Assyria and Ur, down to the pioneering women in the history of Contemporary Iraq, such as Nazih al-Dulaimi, Nazik al-Malaika, Zaha Hadid and other creative women.
The symposium recommended the need to support women so that they can perform their role effectively by holding conferences and seminars that shed light on the duties that fall upon women and the rights granted to them by the tolerant Islamic Sharia, which gave women a pioneering role in building society.
On the other hand, the Women Empowerment Unit held a symposium entitled (Women and the Challenges of Climate Change), which included a lecture by Dr. Hawra Jassim Radi, in which she dealt with the empowerment of women in all activities aimed at introducing the phenomenon of climate change and involving them in decision-making to create a safe environment, as well as the importance of the role of women in the fields of energy, agriculture and transportation to build a developed economy and an advanced society capable of adapting to climate fluctuations.
The symposium concluded with the importance of diagnosing the challenges that affect the psychological, social and economic stability of women, for the purpose of developing strategic solutions to address these challenges, with an emphasis on the need to seek the help of scientific university professors, especially women, to study the phenomenon of climate change by publishing scientific research, holding seminars and conferences and finding appropriate solutions.
