A master’s thesis in the Department of Pathological Analysis investigated the spread of methicillin versus vancomycin resistance of staphylococcal bacteria isolated from various clinical infections in Najaf Governorate.
The thesis, presented by MSc student Fatima Karim Nasser, under the supervision of Dr. Ibtihal Idris Ahmed, aims to investigate the spread of staphylococcal bacteria and the genes responsible for the virulence factors carried by these bacteria and their resistance to antibiotics.
The study revealed the widespread of methicillin-resistant and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus bacteria, and that most bacterial isolates possess antibiotic resistance genes and virulence genes responsible for the high pathogenicity of these bacteria.
