Faculty of Science holds a scientific symposium on the phenomenon of fish deaths in the Euphrates River

In the presence of Prof. Dr. Mohsen Al-Dhulmi, President of the University of Kufa and Mr. Luay Al-Yasiri, Governor of Najaf and a selection of officials of the competent departments in the province, and a collection of deans of university faculties, professors, researchers and students, The Department of Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science at the University of Kufa held its scientific symposium entitled “The Catastrophe in the Euphrates River”.

Prof. Dr.  Hussein Al-Shujairi, Dean of the Faculty of Science, said that the symposium dealt with three topics, one on the challenges of biomedical communities in the Iraqi ecosystems given by Dr. Mohammed Al-Haidari, and the second on the Euphrates river contaminants and its role in the mortality of fish by Dr. Sadiq al-Zarfi and the third axis considered the most important fungal diseases that affect the fish given by Dr. Nihad Habib.

Al-Shujairi added that the symposium concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which is the formation of a team of professors from the University of Kufa to deal with the problems of the governorate, especially in the environmental field, the importance of strengthening the control systems and the application of environmental laws and follow-up of fish breeding cages and removal of unauthorized ones. And the maintenance of sewage treatment units on the Kufa River and to guide students and researchers of the environment department to study the environmental problems in the Euphrates River in the field of bacterial and fungal infections and poisonous algae existed in the river.
